The VPN industry is full of lies. Many providers advertise with misleading marketing, and sponsor countless YouTubers to perpetuate the false narrative. The review sites which rate them highly are usually bought and paid for. They are overpriced, even with their discounts and flash sales. And most are trivial to block in the countries that need them most. In our view, such practices go against the foundation of what a VPN provider is supposed to be - trustworthy.
Cloak Engaged is created and operated by a sole developer, formerly from University of Toronto. I
have no need for any investors, and no desire to
become a conventional company. I run this project close to at-cost to make it highly affordable and
accessible to anyone who needs a VPN. Remember, one does not simply gain privacy just by enabling a VPN;
there is only a transfer of trust (from your ISP to the VPN provider). Privacy is only gained
if the trust moves to a more trustworthy entity.
Privacy policies are just another form of marketing, because anyone can say anything. VPN companies can
pass a no-logs audit, and then the logs enabled the next day. Code can be open-sourced, whilst a
modified version runs in production. At the end of the day it falls down to trust. Actions speak louder,
and VPN companies have shown many times that their 'strict no logging policy' has been anything but
that.
Cloak Engaged was created to set a new standard, to make people aware of the truth whilst providing a
highly affordable service. It's built as a fully anonymous system, and only time can be the judge of
that.
Some VPN providers like to market their jurisdiction as a selling point, relying on their country's privacy laws. But laws inevitably change. We don't need to hide behind a country's laws, because we don't rely on those laws to safeguard your privacy. We created Cloak Engaged as a zero-knowledge system, and in doing so we made jurisdiction irrelevant. Put simply, we could hand over whatever we have to any authority if compelled - and they would still have nothing.
Cloak Engaged gives you a simple VPN with premium-level performance at an unbeatable price, in a way that
servers
can't be trivially blacklisted, and in a manner that is honest and transparent. We're able to achieve this
even without any economies of scale, by only focusing on what matters.
We are not run by a roomful of
shareholders or suits. We don't fill our site with trackers trying to learn anything about you. We don't spend big money on marketing, and we don't waste development on
proprietary apps or custom protocols, or any unnecessary bells and whistles. We keep things minimalist
and battle-tested by only using OSS (Open-Source Software), which is
what powers the industry already.
We'll be here if you need us,
